Kreg Tool offers Pocket Hole Plug Cutter

Well, I guess I can throw away my well-worn pocket hole plug cutting jig I made several years ago.

Kreg Tool has now created a pocket hole plug cutter system that looks like it will render many shop-made jigs quaint. It looks to work on the same principle as the standard pocket hole jig, but with a plug cutting bit.

Here’s what Kreg says:

“The Kreg® Custom Pocket-Hole Plug Cutter makes it possible to take Kreg Joinery™ projects to the next level by giving you complete freedom to create your own custom plugs from any wood species. That means you can cut plugs from your own project stock to create plugs with color and grain that match your project better than has ever been possible before. Plus, the Custom Pocket-Hole Plug Cutter allows you to create face-grain plugs that that blend in amazingly well. These face-grain plugs are easier to hide than conventional plugs that have visible end-grain.

In addition, the Custom Pocket-Hole Plug Cutter also accepts accessory bits (sold separately) that can cut plugs that fit Kreg® Micro-Pocket™ pocket holes, as well as plugs to work with the Kreg Jig® HD—a plug size that’s only possible using the Custom Pocket-Hole Plug Cutter.

The Custom Pocket-Hole Plug Cutter will be available in November of 2016 for $69.99 (US MSRP). The standard, Micro, and HD Custom Plug Cutting Bits will be available at the same time for $39.99 each (US MSRP).”

Pretty excited to try this one out when it’s available, but it looks like we’ll all have to wait until November.

In the meantime, here’s the video I did on how to make your own pocket hole plugs.
