Plan of the Week: Shutter Headboard
The Chief’s Shop Shutter Headboard is made by marrying upcycled old window shutters with new lumber to create a completely new piece. The shutters have been kept in their found condition to add a bit of rustic charm, and the entire piece is attached to the wall via a French cleat.
You’ll need a table saw (for creating the French cleat), miter saw, jigsaw, and drill to complete this project.

Sketch of the Day: Bed Cornice
A bed cornice concept, or really tall headboard if you prefer. I’ve sized this at about 7 feet, and could of course be adjusted as desired. As with most of my headboard-type projects, I’d mount this to the wall using a cleat.

Add a shelf on either side, fill in the opening, add a sconce, and you’ve turned an old mantle into a rather nifty headboard.
