Plan of the Week: Firepit Bench

For the Chief’s Shop Firepit Bench project I created a unique look and assembly method for the legs and a slightly different way of adding end rails. It’s primarily assembled using a Kreg Jig and can easily be knocked out in an afternoon. I designed it as a two-person bench to go around a firepit (hence the name), but you could customize the length and place it anywhere.  A miter saw, drill/driver, Kreg Jig, a 2×6 and some 2x4s are all you need to build it.

Plan of the Week: Contemplation Bench

The Chief’s Shop Contemplation Bench is designed for a quiet garden spot – a place where you can sit and ponder what’s troubling you. It of course could be placed on a patio, deck, or inside to be used as an accent bench.

For outside use be sure to make it from cedar, redwood, or a treated lumber. You’ll need a miter saw and a Kreg Jig to complete this project.

Plan of the Week: Porch Bench Footrest

The Chief’s Shop Porch Bench Footrest is a companion piece to my Porch Bench project from late last year. It’ll provide a comfortable way to prop up your feet, or serve as a makeshift bench.

It requires a miter saw, drill/driver, and Kreg Jig to complete it.

Plan of the Week: Porch Bench

I see this bench project as more of a decor item, perhaps to be used during holidays for displays. It’s of course functional as well, and can seat two. Perhaps it can be a charming spot to sip a drink early in the morning or late in the day.

The Chief’s Shop Porch Bench requires only three pieces of lumber. A miter saw, drill/driver, and Kreg Jig are all you need to complete it.

Plan of the Week: Reading Bench

The Chief’s Shop Reading Bench project is perfect for a little nook that needs a little “something”, a study, or a child’s room. It can seat two, or one person with legs stretched out. The shelf on the end can be used to store magazines, books, etc.

My usual tool suspects are needed to complete it – table saw, miter saw, jig saw, drill driver, and Kreg Jig.

Plan of the Week: “Two-By” Bench

The Chief’s Shop “Two-By” Bench can be made in an afternoon and requires on a few tools to complete – a miter saw, circular saw, drill driver, and Kreg pocket hole jig.

Its name comes from the fact that it requires 2 x material, two 2 x 4s and a 2 x 12. Use your choice of exterior lumber for the base components, but try to avoid treated lumber for the seat unless you plan to thoroughly seal it using solid exterior stain or exterior paint.
