New Kreg hardware jigs

Kreg Tool has some new hardware jigs available starting Sept. 1.

There are three categories: Cabinet hardware; Drawer slide; and Concealed hinge. All look to be of the same quality (I haven’t gotten my hands on them yet) as all the other Kreg jigs I’ve used, and will probably prompt me to toss out my well-worn shop-made jigs I’ve used for these purposes in the past. As soon a I get them I’ll post my usual Quick Look videos and reviews.

Head over to my Facebook page for tons of photos and more details, including MSRPs, for these jigs.

My Big Finish

For my Big Finish project, I plan to complete a wine rack and storage cabinet my wife has wanted for a couple of years. Being a freelance DIY/Wooodworking content producer, I often let my home projects go to the back burner while I work on paying projects. Well, now, I plan to finish this one right quick.

Here’s the “before” (the current view) of the wasted space area:

See that narrow space against the wall and to the left of the fridge? There I plan to create this:

rachelswinerack

There will be room for wine bottles in the diagonal storage cubbies, and additional space for other libation bottles and/or wine glasses in the top shelf and the cabinet space below.

Look for detailed how-to photos, step-by-step instructions, and illustrations in the coming weeks.

Thank you to BLACK+DECKER for sponsoring this post and inspiring me to FINALLY finish this project!

Shop Creativity Contest

I’ve been running a little contest on my Facebook page with the idea of highlighting creativity in workbenches, jigs, and/or storage. Take a look at the album here and click on the like button for each one you do, in fact, like. The one with the most likes on Dec. 15 will receive a prize.

This may turn into a monthly contest, so stay tuned!

Plan of the Week: Raised Bookcase #woodworking

The Chief’s Shop Raised Bookcase gets some inspiration from Arts & Crafts/Mission styles. Differing from typical bookcase projects, the bottom shelf of this project has been lifted above floor level. The size of this project also lends itself to be used as sofa table.

You’ll need a table saw or circular saw, miter saw, jig saw, drill driver, and Kreg Jig.

Plan of the Week: Ready For School Bench #woodworking #DIY

The Chief’s Shop Ready For School Bench can be used in a foyer, mudroom, or garage as a staging area for preparing to leave for school, or heading off to the bus stop.

This project has two options for the lumber needed. One lumber list and cutting diagram are for those who have a table saw and are comfortable ripping 2x lumber. The other is for those who may not have a table saw or are not comfortable ripping 2x lumber. Other than the optional table saw, this plan requires a miter saw, jig saw, drill driver, and Kreg Jig.
