Sketch of the Day: Y-Frame Stool

This is one of a few designs I’m trying out for a stool/chair to go in my oldest son’s room for his desk. The desk is tall, much like a drafting desk. It’s similar in concept to my y-frame chair and y-frame bench plans.

The Chief’s Shop Wall-Mounted Console is perfect for an entryway or hallway where space is at a premium. It hangs on the wall via a cleat, and can be built in an afternoon. A table saw, miter saw, drill, Kreg pocket hole jig, and a hammer are all you need to build it.

I’m planning to build some variation of this for my office. It is desk height, but long and narrow, which allows it to fit alongside the end of a desk, or just behind it. The end features a paper/magazine rack.

You can use this table as both a display for collectibles as well as a standard coffee table. It would be rather simple to complete, with the most difficult part of the project being cutting the tapers on the legs.

Scrap Project: Small Mallet

I use a lot of 2 x 2s in projects and have cutoffs in abundance. So, I came up with the Chief’s Shop Small Mallet that can either be used as a crab mallet (for cracking shells), or a small meat mallet (for tenderizing or flattening cuts of meat).

You’ll need a 5/8-inch round dowel and a 1/4-inch round dowel as well. Click on the image below to access the plan.
